Liberty

I am proud of being a libertarian Conservative. My beliefs were born and bred on these great isles, retaining the vision that Britain is still a beacon of liberty, freedom and justice. As subjects of Her Majesty we, the British people, have an almost unique relationship between the individual and the state: we are born truly free people.

However, it must be recognised that standards have declined and liberty is being impacted upon on almost daily basis. The present political malaise, the clammering for the centre ground is suffocating the individuals of our land and restricting our opportunites for progression and prosperity. Britain should and can do better.

The Conservative Party, under David Cameron has undoubtably been successful at de-contaminating a brand for the elusive and, probably fictional, middle ground. The Thatcher Governments of the Eighties won elections by striking a chord with the electorate and delivering better standards of living: those of us under thirty can only read agog at talks of 3-day-weeks and no electricity at night!

Why have we conservatives lost the ability to win political debates and public opinions? Let us not under-estimate the savviness of the Labour machine: Alistair Campbell, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have been plotting the downfall of our movement for the best part of two decades. We need to find some of that hatred, we need to start hammering away at the myths that New Labour has perpetuated around: we must hold them to account for wasting a golden economic opportunity presented to them in 1997, promote our vision for restoring our economic credibility and began the processes of de-politicising the Civil Service, the Police and re-installing the electorte's faith in the political process.

The way to win back the consensus is too create an anti-ideological ideology: free the people from the shackles of delusion and show them life beyond the imagery and shadows! Now Brown has bottled calling a General Election, I hope the present leadership exploits every opportunity presented to us.
