The Labour Party, a collective of instinctive dictatorial micro-managers,has attempted to masquerade as the rightful inheritors of Thatcherism: a cause for the good of all, prudent guardians of the British economy and the protectorate of our people. This is utter nonsense.
I am bemused as to why we have allowed the reputation of right-wing political philosophy to be so easily sullied over the last 15 years. The 1980's was a monumental decade which saved Britain from becoming the permanent 'basket-case' of Europe: without that harsh reality-check we would already be entirely consumed within a federalist European state: the centre-ground is right- wing. New Labour/ Labour may have employed our rhetoric but they are high-taxing, nannying, interfering statists, who have failed to deliver any substantial improvements for our country.
As testament to the influence Thatcher had, the traditional linear of Left/ Right politics is redundant. The Conservative Party and the right-wing in general has won every major argument over the last century. We should be much bolder in our beliefs, values and principles. The long standing principles of our party are fundamentally rooted in the freedom of the individual, the non-interference of the state and sovereignty of our nation. As a Party we should now be making much more noise about libertarian issues; ID Cards, incessant bans (Fox Hunting, Smoking), the decline in democracy (in particular the need for a referendum on the EU Consitution/ Treaty) etc
As anyone involved with youth politics knows, the battleground has moved towards these kind of issues; the Thacterite kids will be rallying against authoritarian government. This is is why groups such as The Freedom Assocation, The Tax Payer's Alliance and The Adam Smith Institute are blooming, the next generation is interested in poltical ideology and debate.
DC's leadership has already, implicitly, shown this by assuming 'liberal' positions that we, as the Conservative Party, have neglected:let the markets influence health, education and employment.
The Conservative Party is moving in the right direction.
