Personal background

I have been a Branch Chair for the last 2 years for my local association, Herts South West, but I have been thoroughly disappointed by the lack of communication and advice from within CF. I am an Informationist by training and profession so am passionate about the effective use and dissemination of information and the enormous advantages they offer: particularly so when dealing with the informed, communication savvy demographic that constitutes the present CF membership and our target audience.

My personal background is important to my politics: I am a Midlander but have lived in the North-East, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. By circumstance, I am an outsider and have the tremendous advantage of having an open remit for change. I also know the feelings of frustration that many people beyond the 'Westminster bubble' over the last decade and a half have experienced. 'Real-world' experience should never be underestimated.

University

I studied Information Management at UCL: the greatest strength of the degree is the range of subjects covered; information dissemination and control are skills that require a broader understanding of the operating environment to recognise and develop all areas of organisational strategy.

After five years in logistics, I chose this degree as I could build on the real world business experience I had gained but it would provide me with the additional skills, tools and knowledge that one needs in today's business world.

Working life

My career so far has covered logistics, systems and project management. I spent five years in international logistics, managing my own portfolio of clients from the initial sales pitch through to the day-to-day management of consignments. I worked for the largest UK based logistics company and dealt with a diverse range of customers from small, independent companies to global car firms, BMW, to drop a name.
